About Shitlington Hall

Shitlington Hall is situated in the North Tyne valley and is a 420 acre, family run hill farm.  We have farmed here since 1988 and started the Leicester flock shortly after. In 2009 we took over another 400 acre hill farm at Carrawbrough which is situated about 5 miles away on Hadrians Wall.

We run 900 Hexham type Blackface ewes, crossing 650 to the Leicester and breeding 250 pure for our own replacements.  We aim to sell 500-550  mule ewe lambs each year mostly through Hexham Auction Mart. We keep a few mule ewe lambs as replacements for our complimentary flock of 80 mule ewes.

Shitlington Hall also runs a spring/summer calving herd of 55-60 Limousin/Belgian Blue X suckler cows.  We sell some of the calves at 10-12 months old at Hexham. The remainder will be summered alongside 30 bought in sucklers. We like to show a few homebred calves each year and have been successful on several occasions.

Alongside these we run 20 Bluefaced Leicester ewes.  We sell their progeny as both lambs and shearlings at Hexham and Carlisle.

Our aim in breeding Leicesters has always been to produce sheep with good confirmation and skins, a bonny face is a bonus.
